How to Reach Langkawi From Kuala Lumpur?

This guide is suitable for you if you are looking the cheap and easy way to go to Langkawi. You'll find guide is helpful and useful.

You are in Kuala Lumpur or KL as Malaysians call it and want to go to Langkawi that is located some 500 km heading north from this metropolitan. This short guide will show you how you can go there.

You're looking for this information because maybe this is your first time in Malaysia or plan to visit Malaysia in the near future. However this guide is also useful for Malaysians themselves especially for those who have never been to Kuala Lumpur.

In this article I assume that you want to Langkawi Island by using an express bus although there are other means of transportations like train or airplane which I think need to be discussed in separate articles later.

The most popular means of transportation is by using an express bus. For this purpose you need to buy the bus ticket first. Where to buy the ticket?

You can buy the ticket at Pudu Raya Bus Terminal ( located at Jalan Pudu translated i.e. Pudu Road) or Bus terminal at Hentian Duta ( located at Jalan Duta).

Just buy the ticket that go to Kuala Perlis. You need to go to Kuala Perlis because this place has a jetty ( Kuala Perlis Jetty) that you can use to Langkawi Island.

Furthermore, Kuala Perlis Jetty is the nearest point to Langkawi ( about 30 km)

If you buy the ticket from Pudu Raya Bus Terminal ( Malaysians call it Hentian Pudu Raya or Pudu Raya ), you still need to go to Hentian Duta to take the bus there.

Why? Because Pudu Raya is an old bus terminal ( was opened back in 1976 if I'm not mistaken) and rapidly becoming more crowded.

To avoid the serious traffic congestion there at Jalan Pudu as well as to avoid the Pudu Raya from very crowded, all express buses that go to North including Kuala Perlis were ordered to depart from Hentian Duta.

Make sure you buy only the bus ticket from the ticketing counter. Don't buy from the people outside the counter or you get cheated.

I recommend you to buy the ticket from these bus companies Transnasional, CauseWay Link, Konsortium and EltaBina. The most popular choice is Transnasional.

The fare from Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Perlis at the time of this writing ( October 2008 ) should be around RM50. Once again if you buy the ticket from Pudu Raya ask the staff there where exactly you need to take your express bus.

If you get stuck or confused, you can easily consult the guy at Information Counter there at Pudu Raya.

After 6 to 7 hours in the bus, you will arrive at Kuala Perlis, go to Kuala Perlis Jetty and buy the ticket for going aboard the boat. The boat fare is RM18 and it takes 45 minutes to reach Kuah Jetty Point in Langkawi.

Once you've been thereScience Articles, you can search for suitable langkawi hotels for your stay. There a lot of accommodations there.

That's all for this guide. Hope this article was helpful. Enjoy your trip there and have fun. Welcome to Langkawi
